Radio DJ Giel Beelen says he will leave NPO Radio 2, possibly a joke NOW

Radio DJ Giel Beelen announced his departure from NPO Radio 2 on Tuesday around midnight. In a video of a live broadcast he posted to his Instagram, he indicated that tonight was his last. In the past, Beelen has sometimes joked that it was “the last broadcast before May”. That could also be the case now.

Beelen tells in the video among other things about the unrest in “radioland”. He calls it a “landslide”, which unfortunately also happens among DJs. He says he had a fantastic time at NPO Radio 2.

The departure of the radio DJ has not yet been officially confirmed, a spokesperson was not yet available for comment.

In October 2020, Beelen switched from Radio Veronica to Radio 2. “I started from 4 a.m. to 6 a.m. I was immediately allowed to participate in the Top 2000, the Song Contest and promotion to this amazing time slot”, he looked back. “Live music, specials, just being busy with music every day. I am a grateful person. NPO Radio 2 is a warm bath and really a family,” he said before starting his last record. “It ends here for me.”

Beelen could be heard on 3FM for years, before he switched to Radio Veronica in 2017, where he started presenting a morning show. It is not yet known where he will now work.
