Favre probably not a new coach at Borussia Mönchengladbach – coach question still open – football – sport

“It is essential for the future of the club that we make the right decision when it comes to coaching”said sports director Roland Virkus at the club’s general meeting on Monday evening. “We have created a clear requirement profile and are currently in talks with several candidates.” After the separation from Adi Hütter, Borussia is currently without a coach for the coming season.

“You can be sure that we want to get this done as soon as possible”Virkus assured members. “But: Since we haven’t made good decisions in the last three years as far as the coach is concerned, it’s immensely important that we make a good decision.” Virkus expressly did not want his words to be understood as criticism of his predecessor Max Eberl.

Virkus considered it unlikely that former Glabach coach Lucien Favre would return, even if the club had been working on a commitment. “Lucien Favre has Borussia in his heart, but no longer wants to work in Germany”according to Virkus. “You can be sure that we have done everything but I don’t think Lucien Favre will be the coach at Borussia for the next two years.”

14.6 million euros minus

The association made a minus of 14.6 million euros in the 2021 financial year. The red numbers are a direct result of Corona, said Managing Director Stephan Schippers. A year earlier, Gladbach had posted a loss of 16.7 million. The five-time champion still has equity of 71.8 million.

“In a league comparison, this is a very respectable result”said Schippers. Overall, Borussia recorded a loss of 100 million in sales in two Corona years, 70 million of which were made up for by savings.

Applause for Eberl

“As Borussia, we got through this period very well, especially economically. We’re not satisfied with the sport, we haven’t achieved our goals.”, said President Rolf Koenigs. Borussia finished last season in tenth place and thus for the first time since 2010/11 not in a single digit.

There was prolonged applause when Koenig recalled former sports director Max Eberl, who had resigned exhausted in January after 23 years at the club. “He deserves the applause”said Koenig: “Max Eberl has done a good job for us in 13 years as a sporting manager. We will not forget what he did for us. We were sad on the day of his resignation.”
