Owner on vacation: Tesla has been hanging from a public charging station for two months | Car

Resident Daniëlle Smit, who filed a complaint with the municipality about the Tesla that was connected to the public charging station for a long time, tells her story to NH News. She was told by the municipality that the owner is on vacation. Unplugging the Tesla and moving it was apparently too much trouble. “I think this is a really bizarre display,” said Smit. “If you park on the sidewalk here, you will be fined 150 euros, but you can appropriate a charging station.”

You can park for free in the street in question and that may also be the problem, because in the paid parking zones in Amsterdam you also have to pay at a charging station. The municipality of Amsterdam has no rules to prevent ‘charging station sticking’, so that no action is taken against the Tesla in this matter. The municipality also sees no problem in standing still for a long time at a charging station. “We have a large network of charging stations in Amsterdam,” says a spokesperson for the municipality. The municipality does say that it will contact the owner as soon as he returns from vacation.

There are currently no national regulations regarding standing still at a charging station for a long time. Whether you will be fined for this depends on the general local ordinance (APV) of the relevant municipality. The Arnhem-Leeuwarden Court of Appeal ruled this year in a case about a charging station sticker in Noordwijk and ruled that the fine of 95 euros was justified. This ruling sets a precedent for electric drivers in municipalities that have banned the long-term occupation of a public charging station without actually charging in their off-road vehicle.
