The first splash of the season was celebrated extra festively in Zijdewind today. Swimming pool ‘t Petje, run entirely by volunteers, has been given a complete makeover. New toilets, a beautiful changing room where babies can also be changed, everything has been thought of.
“We also had a roof made here at the entrance. You are always sheltered here and if it is really warm, the nanny parents can sit here in the shade,” says Kim Wijnker, who is chairman of the bath. “The men have worked very hard, they have been here every free hour. It doesn’t matter whether it was raining or sweltering hot.”
The swimming pool in Zijdewind has been around for generations. Many residents therefore came this afternoon to see what the volunteers have made of it. “The children can come here themselves. It is a small community,” Wijnker explains. “From the age of 8 they can just go to the bath themselves. There is a part for the little ones and a part for the older children, really perfect.”
More beautiful
The new bathing season was opened with a run-up and a big splash. “It is still a bit chilly”, says one of the swimmers, “but the first splash has been made. Can we go swimming all summer long.” Kim Wijnker says on behalf of the board that it also needed a makeover, “but it has become much more beautiful than we thought.”
