Altogether there are 54 new recordings by Bright Eyes to hear – i.e. re-recordings from the albums “A Collection Of Songs Written And Recorded 1995-1997”, “Letting Off The Hapiness” (1998) and “Fevers And Mirrors” from the year 2000
Each EP consists of five Bright Eyes songs and a cover song that inspired Oberst to write it. Here the frontman addresses his idols Elliot Smith and Simon Joyner. He has brought big names on board to support him. Oberst sings with Phoebe Bridgers on “Haligh, Haligh, A Lie, Haligh”, with Waxahatchee frontwoman Katie Crutchfield on “Contrast and Compare” and with M.Ward on “Kathys With AK Song”.
Make songs interesting again
“We take these songs and make them interesting again,” explains Oberst. This is neither nostalgic nor complacent, but an honest connection with the past. Oberst emphasizes: “It is a challenge. I like this.”
