Australian Alexandra Manly won the first stage of the 34th Tour of Thuringia in Bavarian Hof on Tuesday (May 24). After 93.8 kilometers and a driving time of 2:32:27 hours, Manly won the sprint ahead of Femke Markus from the Netherlands and Silvia Zanardi from Italy. Manly also took the yellow jersey as overall leader of the Ladies Tour.
“She put everything on one card. It couldn’t be more exciting,” summed up tour organizer Vera Hohlfeld after the race. “Tomorrow it might be a bit more relaxed because the track won’t be that difficult. But the classification is still open for a long time.”
Brennauer in 48th place after the Corona break
The best German driver through the Hofer Land was Junior European Champion Linda Riedmann from Karbach in eleventh place. One place behind was Romy Kasper from Lausitz. The two-time Tournament winner Lisa Brennauer (Durach) reached the finish line 3:58 minutes behind in 48th place and should therefore already be out of the race for the third success in the Thuringia Tour.
The 33-year-old, last year’s Olympic champion on the track and multiple world and European champion on track and road, comes from a longer Corona break and dampened expectations in advance. The second stage (103.7 kilometers) on Wednesday begins and ends in Gera.
