SBS 6 has fully blossomed again now that Today Inside is back on the air. At half past nine in the evening, the channel gains no less than 233 percent (!) in viewers compared to the last VI-less week.
It is becoming increasingly clear that Today Inside has rapidly become the cork on which the whole of SBS 6 floats. During the candlestick exit, the channel’s viewing figures collapsed to such an extent that an early return was really necessary. The men of VI are now back on TV, have had one full broadcast week and SBS 6 has blossomed again.
233 percent
SBS 6 must have been completely panicked after Today Inside’s candle exit. On one day the channel still had the most watched talk show in the Netherlands, on the next day the whole house of cards collapsed.
During the last VI-less broadcasting week of SBS 6, last week, an average of 296 thousand people watched reruns of Chateau Meiland at half past nine in the evening. This week, an average of 988 thousand people watched Today Inside. This means that the channel sees its viewership increase by no less than 233 (!) percent in this time slot.
All of SBS 6 benefits
It’s not just the half past nine, but the entire broadcast evening of SBS 6 that benefits from the VI return. During the VI-less weeks, Hart van Nederland and Shownieuws, which were broadcast subsequently, also scored much worse.
From Monday to Friday, SBS 6 scored an average night market share of 14.1 percent this week, compared to an average of 9.2 percent on the same evenings last week. That is an increase of 53 percent.
In terms of viewing figures, it is all in all a good thing that Talpa has repented. Johan Derksen tells in The Telegraph that after the extreme fall in viewing figures, a Talpa board member suddenly appeared on his doorstep in Grolloo: “SBS lost hundreds of thousands of viewers. I have noticed that we are quite important to that channel.”
