BZ editor Sara Orlos Fernandes comments on the illegal wildlife trade.

Wild animals such as foxes are penetrating our urban space more and more and are no longer a rarity in the city center. Due to the frequent contact with humans, many of the animals are not shy. But that doesn’t make them our pets.

The fox is and remains a wild animal. Putting it for sale online because people want to keep it at home is illegal and reckless. The fact that breeders try to breed particularly tame species only shows that the fox is not made for living with humans in an apartment.

According to animal experts, nothing should be left of the tameness by the mating season at the latest. The fox belongs in nature, even if it is currently the trend on social media as a replacement dog.
