The Strokes are a band that just do their thing – and have done since they formed in 1998. From the start, the group stood out because a) they seemed to effortlessly find their sound and b) they didn’t care about being right or wrong in the music scene. No less important: They intuitively knew how to package their ideas so that others could do something with them as well.
In 20 years, affluent New York kids with a passion for guitar rock have become artists nearly every indie fan has danced to. And best of all: They will soon be live at Tempelhof Sounds in Berlin to see.
The Strokes live in Berlin: Blast from the past and more topical than ever
“Is This It?” The Strokes asked themselves in 2001 with their so-named debut album and may have hoped but never expected what followed. At the beginning of the millennium, the five New York youngsters started an indie wave that could not be stopped. Their unmistakable retro sound runs through their entire discography, but always left room for experimentation and further development. That’s probably why they managed not only to ride the two-thousander wave to the end, but also to paddle out right away – to show the next generation of music fans how lively guitar sound is even 20 years later. They recently succeeded in doing this with their album “The New Abnormal”.
In 2022 there will be dancing again
“A band, born for the dignified record cabinet, the big stages of this world and – above all – dancing through summer nights”, the makers of the Tempelhof Sound rave about the band and certainly don’t promise too much. Because The Strokes with their charismatic singer Julian Casablancas have always delivered a carefree show, which we can really use after so many months of live abstinence.
Tempelhof Sounds is the festival for all indie fans
Anyone who has complained in recent years that major festivals are increasingly opening up to electro, cloud rap and other popular styles should be concerned about this one rock and alternative line-up: In addition to The Strokes, Tempelhof Sounds also has Two Door Cinema Club, The Libertines, Florence + The Machine, Muse, Alt-J, Interpol, Maximo Park, Johnossi and numerous other well-known music greats.
