Club Brugge is champion. A 1-3 win ensures the 18th national title

Club Brugge starts its match of truth with mainly title stress in the legs. Antwerp is more than clearly the better team. Ally Samatta does everything right on 15 minutes. Ball next to Mignolet, the post saves Club.

Mata started on the right, but he is clearly not happy. Michael Frey passes and can cross. Samatta bounces back and the Swiss curls him wonderfully in the farthest corner. Michael Frey did not score for two months, but delivers blue-black title printing. 1-0. (Read more below the photo)

Club can thank Big Si

One Antwerp attack wave follows another. Moments later Mata again gets into trouble, this time it is De Laet who lets him go. De Laet also curls neatly to the corner. Mignolet, the best man in the play-offs at Club Brugge, saves Club from double arrears. Corner kick. Ball in the pinball machine. Again Mignolet must rescue. First briefly, then with the foot against Haroun. Club moans. Clinton Mata is substituted.

At Club there is really only one who really plays at a level and that is Mignolet. In the half hour he should be alert again to Samatta’s header. Club owes Big Si that it is not yet 3-0.

Vanaken brings Club alongside

Club Brugge fills up with fresh courage during halftime. Odoi replaces Balanta. Noa Lang enters the sixteen and is knocked down by Seck. An obvious penalty kick. Hans Vanaken has no doubts from the start and made it 1-1. His 101st goal for blue-black, the goal of hope.

Match returns in two minutes

But even after the equalizer, Club suffers the game.

However, the cards are different now. And it shows in minute 63. Jack Hendry heads a corner from Sobol right past Butez at the near post. At a standstill phase, Club turns the situation: 1-2 and the title fever is fierce again now. What’s more, just two minutes later Adamyan takes care of the 1-3, again after a corner. Suddenly everything changes. The Armenian is uncovered at the second post, the title is now in.

And so Club Brugge takes its third national title in a row, the eighteenth in total. A well deserved title, let there be no doubt about it. After an unseen series without defeat, Club leader Union did not just keep under pressure after the winter break. Club thus started at the start of the play-offs at a feasible distance from the inhabitants of Brussels. And in those play-offs, Club continued to string together good results. With 13 out of 15 it proved invincible. Not always swinging but very efficient, with a very reliable Mignolet between the posts. And that’s how you become a champion.
