The Nike company announced this Friday the end of its relationship with Spartak Moscow, a club with which it had worked since 2005. Spartak announced in a statement the end of the “sponsorship contract” by Nike because the Moscow club cannot participate in European competitions next season.

The reason is the Russian “special military operation” in Ukraine, which has already prevented Spartak from playing in the round of 16 of the Europa League after qualifying as first in the group. “Spartak’s commercial management is working to find a new supplier of the team’s kit,” added the club’s statement.

Spartak, which is ninth in the Russian league, could have played in European tournaments through the final of the Russian Cup, where it will face Dinamo on May 28.

The Russian football team, led by Valery Karpinwas also sanctioned and could not play against Poland in the World Cup playoffs.
