Alfred Schreuder will almost certainly be the new head coach of Ajax. According to De Telegraaf, the club from Amsterdam is in broad agreement with the current coach of Club Brugge. A two-year contract would be ready for him.
Schreuder was the assistant of Ten Hag at Ajax in the successful 2018-2019 season of Ajax. He was also the trainer of FC Twente and Hoffenheim and the right hand of head coach Ronald Koeman at FC Barcelona.
General manager Edwin van der Sar did not yet want to confirm that Schreuder will be the new head coach of Ajax around the championship match against sc Heerenveen. He did want to say that Ajax will present a new head coach before the end of the season. The champion of the Netherlands will close the season on Sunday with an away game against Vitesse.
Ambitions
“We want to maintain our European ambitions”, said Van der Sar, “Then you have to clarify in time how we are going to do next season. Players also have to know where they stand.”
Van der Sar has tried to keep Ten Hag for Ajax. “We certainly made him an increased offer,” says the former goalkeeper. “But it soon became clear that two big clubs from two different countries wanted him. Ten Hag is a very good trainer, who will probably do well at Manchester United.”
Earlier on Wednesday, Belgian media already reported that Schreuder is on his way to Ajax. The trainer has an option in his contract with Club Brugge that he may leave for 1.5 million euros.
