Arsenal are reportedly considering signing Raheem Sterling. Once again “Telegraph” reported the Gunners are exploring the possibility of bringing the 27-year-old forward should he become available given his contract with Manchester City expires in 2023. According to the British daily, Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta would like to strengthen his team’s attacking side – Sterling, whom he knows from their times together with the “Citizens”, is therefore a suitable candidate.
The 47-time England international has pushed aside talks of a contract extension as he wants to focus on the Premier League championship, which Man City leads ahead of Liverpool. A decision on Sterling’s future only after the end of the season is considered likely. Sterling could follow in the footsteps of Barcelona mover Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (32) and Alexandre Lacazette (30), whose contract is ending at Arsenal.

The sine qua non of Arsenal’s intentions to target a Sterling transfer: qualifying for the Champions League. With three games to go, the chances are good as they are fourth in the table with a four-point lead over Tottenham. Sterling switched from Liverpool to City in 2015 for around 64 million euros, and since then the right foot has scored 130 goals (93 assists) in 337 games for the Skyblues. Most recently, Arsenal were also linked to teammate Gabriel Jesus (25) because the Brazilian’s departure is said to be likely.
Sterling eyeing Manchester City exit – Guardiola wants happy players
Sterling had expressed thoughts of a change last autumn, which coach Pep Guardiola did not leave uncommented: “If one of these players is not satisfied, it’s that simple.” At Man City they want players “who commit themselves and are happy”. Sterling, who was indirectly approached, had previously said: “If there was an opportunity to go somewhere else, I would be open to it at this point.” At the time, the striker was disappointed with the lack of playing time. In 2021/22, Sterling started 22 times in the league, coming on as a substitute six times and remaining completely unused six times. In the Champions League, he even played the joker role in seven out of twelve games. It is therefore quite possible that he can still imagine leaving.
