16th place is safe
Hertha BSC can no longer be relegated directly from the Bundesliga after Arminia Bielefeld’s 2-1 loss at VfL Bochum this season. With a six-point lead, the Berliners can no longer be overtaken by the East Westphalians in the table on the last day of the game.
In the worst case, coach Felix Magath’s team is threatened with relegation games against the third-placed team in the 2nd division if they slip down to 16th place.
Relegation is within reach for Hertha on matchday 33. With a Victory against 1. FSV Mainz 05 on Saturday (6.30 p.m. / Sky) in front of an expected 70,000 spectators in the Olympic Stadium, staying in the Bundesliga would be perfect.
In the event of a draw or even a defeat against Rheinhessen, everything could be settled on Sunday if VfB Stuttgart, currently four points behind Hertha, do not score in the guest appearance at FC Bayern Munich.
