Will Smith is set to make his first public television appearance since March’s Oscar debacle. The actor is scheduled to appear on David Letterman’s talk show My Next Guest Needs No Introduction on May 20th. To anticipate a disappointment: The 53-year-old will probably not talk about the slap against Chris Rock.
The reason for excluding the subject isn’t necessarily that Smith declined to talk about it, but the fact that the show was taped before he freaked out at the Oscars.
Letterman will also welcome Cardi B, Kevin Durant, Billie Eilish, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Ryan Reynolds as guests on the upcoming show.
Will Smith had slapped Comedian Rock in front of cameras for a joke involving his wife’s shaved head. The action had numerous consequences: The Academy excluded Smith from the Oscars for the next ten years. Horrified Hollywood stars spoke negatively about his violent outburst and the press has doggedly followed the actor ever since.
Analysis of the Oscar clamp:
Smith was last seen in Mumbai after a trip to Dubai. There he is said to have devoted himself to meditation and yoga exercises. Both are part of his promise to reflect and never lose control of himself again. An Entertainment Tonight source also said the King Richard star had started therapy after being slapped.
Chris Rock, who received support from the Red Hot Chili Peppers after the incident, was very vague about the crime. He should also have calmed down by now: ticket sales for his stand-up show are going extremely well. His brother, on the other hand, who also called for Smith’s exclusion from the Oscars, said he would like to vent his anger in a boxing match with the actor.
