Due to that points harvest, the Netherlands has again overrun direct competitor Portugal and is also approaching France in the virtual UEFA coefficient ranking without the European disaster season 2017/2018. The lead on number seven Portugal is 2,684 points in the future ranking. In the meantime, the arrears at number five in France can also be overseen (2,181).
It therefore looks good that in time two teams from the Eredivisie will move directly to the group stage of the Champions League. At the moment, only the champion will receive a ticket for the group stage and the number two must qualify for that tournament through the preliminary round. Whether it comes to that depends partly on the European performance of the Dutch clubs next season.
