Formula 1 has also extended the contract with the Chinese Grand Prix until 2025 and discussions have been going on for some time about a second race. “We’ve been to Shanghai before and haven’t been able to race there for the past two years, but it’s an important market for us,” Wolff told Chinese news agency Xinhua during the Formula E race in Monaco last weekend.
“I would like to race not only in Shanghai, but also in Beijing,” said Wolff. “It’s a fantastic market for Mercedes. We now have three races in the United States – Las Vegas, Miami and Austin – and if we could achieve the same in China it would be great.”
