The Ukraine war has not led to an increase in existential fear in Germany’s companies. Instead, the number of companies fearing for their own survival has declined since the beginning of the year. This was the result of a survey by the Munich Ifo Institute published on Monday. According to this, an average of 7.1 percent of companies currently see their existence threatened, in January it was almost twice as many at 13.7 percent.

However, there are still major differences depending on the industry, with the corona pandemic still playing a major role. In the hospitality and event industry, for example, almost 25 percent of companies still have existential concerns, said Ifo survey manager Klaus Wohlrabe. In retail, on the other hand, fears have also decreased with the end of the corona restrictions: In January, 14.8 percent of retailers still admitted existential concerns, in the new edition of the survey it was 6.9 percent.

The Ifo Institute regularly surveys a four-digit number of German companies for its economic forecasts. (dpa)
