Alexander Zverev failed without a word in his opening match at the ATP tournament in Munich.
The number one seeded player from Hamburg was clearly defeated by 18-year-old Dane Holger Rune 3:6, 2:6 and was disappointing. For the fourth in the world rankings, it is another setback in what has been a mixed year so far.
Zverev found no rhythm on the well-attended Center Court on the MTTC Iphitos facility. Rune, number 70 in the world and 2019 winner of the junior competition at the French Open, played carelessly and with a willingness to take risks and repeatedly upset the Olympic champion.
After 1:40 hours he used his second match point.
