World number 1 in men’s singles Novak Djokovic will be able to participate in the third grand slam tournament of the season, Wimbledon, due to the removal of the new type of corona virus (Covid-19) vaccine restriction.
Sally Bolton, President of the All England Lawn Tennis Club, the organizer of the tournament, said at a press conference that with the government’s decision, the vaccination requirement for entry into England was abolished.
Bolton stated that if there is no significant acceleration in the spread of the pandemic, unvaccinated tennis players can also participate in the tournament to be held between June 27 and July 10.
Djokovic, who has 20 grand slam titles in his career, was expelled from Australia, where he went for the first grand slam tournament of the season, due to his refusal to be vaccinated against the new type of corona virus.
Djokovic, who could not participate in the Indian Wells Masters and Miami Open Masters tournaments due to vaccination restrictions in the USA, will be able to compete in Wimbledon after this development.
The 34-year-old tennis player said goodbye to Dubai Tennis Championships in the quarter-finals, Monte Carlo Masters in the first round and Serbia Open in the final.
