Officially
FC Barcelona can report completion: After weeks of talks, Ronald Araújo, who was originally bound until 2023, extends his contract with the Catalans. The 23-year-old will receive a new working paper by June 30, 2026, which he will sign next Friday.
In the course of this, the release clause in Araújo’s contract also increases to 1 billion euros. The Uruguay international is the seventh LaLiga pro to achieve that record. With Ferran Torres (22), Pedri (19) and Ansu Fati (19), a Barça trio already have the same release clauses.

“For us it’s a guarantee that we can count on him,” coach Xavi had recently emphasized and Araújo attested that he could still play at Barça level “for ten years or more”. “He’s getting better and better. He is the key. He’s very happy at Barça, I’m very happy with him. He is a very hard worker, very devoted and a great person.”
Araújo rejects Premier League offers for FC Barcelona
Since making his professional debut in October 2019, Araújo has made 78 appearances (six goals) for FC Barcelona and is a center-back under Xavi. Araújo is said to have turned down better-paid offers from Premier League clubs to continue working with the Barça legend. Liverpool FC, Chelsea FC and Manchester United, among others, have been linked to the central defender in the rumor mill.
