Less busy at Schiphol, but many are still waiting

At Schiphol, the atmosphere among waiting passengers is calm, after there was great crowds on Saturday morning due to a strike among KLM staff. Flights were canceled and Schiphol called on travelers not to come to the airport anymore.

The strike is now over, but many people still have to wait. Also Anna Willemsen from Almere and Marieke Potse from Utrecht. They met in the queue at the check-in desk and turned out to be on the same group trip to Cuba. However, due to long queues, they missed their flight to Madrid.

Now they have been waiting for their turn at the rebooking desk for hours. They have “no idea” when it will be their turn, according to Potse. “We have been here for 2.5 hours and have not made any progress.”

The two say they have not received any information from the airport or their airline, other than KLM. Potse: “We just asked the Marechaussee what was going on.” The women were eventually told by their travel organization that the next flight is not Sunday but probably only in a few days.

Although the crowds decrease on Saturday afternoon, there is still a long line with hundreds of people in front of the entrance to one of the departure halls. The hall can be reached via only one entrance. Inside it is still very busy. Schiphol staff informs people, many families with children, and shows them the way.
