Phenomenal party
Van Gerwen lost his undefeated status against 27-year-old Humphries, who averaged more than 107 points per turn and did not allow Van Gerwen a single leg.

‘Mighty Mike’ did not get further than an average of ninety points. Van Gerwen congratulated Humphries via Twitter with “a phenomenal party”.

on the chin
Van Gerwen: “I still don’t like to lose, but I just have to take this one on the chin. Sometimes a special performance is needed to beat someone. That was this.”

Humphries also settled in the final with his compatriot Martin Lukeman (8-2).
