Van Drimmelen was again discredited this weekend, after reporting in the Volkskrant. This showed that the influential party strategist was indeed guilty of transgressive behavior in the past. A confidential portion of a report into the matter drawing this conclusion has been in the hands of party leaders for a year. This conclusion is not stated in a public part of the report, which was made public last year.

Statement on the website.
‘Extremely painful’
“Last Saturday, de Volkskrant referred in an article to an investigation by Bureau BING into cross-border behavior within D66, in which our colleague is called Frans,” the statement said. “The situation is extremely painful, sad and harmful to all involved.”
“Within our office, the partners discussed the publication and the related developments. After these consultations, it was jointly decided that Frans will temporarily stop working.”
The party board said on Sunday that it would look again at the report. The board members want to weigh the documents “to see whether they may draw different conclusions than previously made,” the party said in a statement. D66 leader Sigrid Kaag has not yet responded to the reports.
