Greek police: Migrant shot dead while crossing from Turkey | Abroad

It is still unclear who fired the shot that killed the woman on Saturday evening. An autopsy revealed that the victim was shot in the back with a small-caliber weapon.

According to the AP news agency, Greek police patrolled the area where the Evros River narrows to about 60 to 70 meters wide and where many migrants are trying to cross. Shortly before 9 p.m., the officers saw numerous migrants on the Turkish side. When eleven people boarded an inflatable dinghy, they were ordered to turn around by the Greek police. A barrage of bullets would have erupted on the Turkish side.

As the boat approached the Greek coast, four people got out and the woman’s body was found in the water. It is unknown what happened to the six other people on board.
