Asteroid 7482 (1994 PC1) will make its closest approach to Earth on January 18, informed Planetary Defense Coordinating Office on Twitter.
Its average diameter is about 1,052 m, the closest distance to Earth would be 1.98 million km, the agency said. According to classification NASA, the asteroid is classified as a “potentially hazardous” object, but the agency assuredthat it will not pose any threat to the planet for at least the next hundred years.
The future approach of the asteroid to the Earth will be the maximum since the beginning of 1933, when, according to NASA calculations, it was less than 1.1 thousand km from the planet, transmits CBS. NASA also said that the asteroid will again fly past the Earth in July this year at a much greater distance. The next time it will approach the planet, according to agency forecasts, only on January 18, 2105, when it will fly at a distance of 2.3 thousand km.
