Milan (AP) – According to a media report, a private group of investors from Bahrain has entered into negotiations for the purchase of the traditional Italian football club AC Milan. This was reported by the US news agency AP, citing a well-informed anonymous source.
It would amount to a purchase price of one billion euros, it said. If Investcorp’s purchase of Milan went through, it would have been the first time a Middle Eastern investor has taken over a Series A club. The Gulf state-based venture capital firm’s talks with AC Milan, which has won three Champions Leagues and four European Cups, started this month, according to the report.
Milan is owned by the American investment company Elliott Management Corporation. The last triumph in the Champions League to date was celebrated in 2007. The team with Sweden’s superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic was this time already eliminated from the European premier class after the group stage.
