A rare family appearance in New York: Whoopi Goldberg visibly showcased her weight loss on the red carpet. Accompanied by her daughter, Alexandrea, the Oscar-winning actress attended the premiere of the revamped version of her legendary “Whoopi Monologues.”
During the event at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater in Lincoln Center, 70-year-old Goldberg appeared alongside her daughter Alexandrea Martin, 52. Observers noted a significant change: Goldberg has lost a noticeable amount of weight.
For the occasion, the Oscar winner chose to wear a beige dress over a black top, accented with understated jewelry. Alexandrea sported a black blazer featuring white stripes on the sleeves, paired with a white top.
The original “Whoopi Monologues” premiered in 1984. For 2026, the one-woman show has been remounted, featuring actresses like Dominique Fishback, Kecia Lewis, Danielle Pinnock, and Kerry Washington.
Whoopi Opens Up About Her Weight Loss
In recent months, Whoopi Goldberg has candidly discussed her weight loss journey. As reported by the British Daily Mail, she explained that after a back injury and sciatica issues, she was treated with the medication Mounjaro in October 2025.
Previously, the actress revealed during an appearance on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” that her weight had peaked at around 136 kilograms. She attributed her weight gain to steroid therapy she received while filming the historical drama “Till” due to her injury.
Goldberg humorously noted that many people barely noticed her weight loss at first. She often wears loose-fitting clothing, which made changes to her figure less visible initially.
A Close Bond with Her Daughter
Alexandrea Martin is Whoopi Goldberg’s only child from her first marriage to Alvin Martin. Like her mother, Alexandrea works in the film industry as an actress and producer. They have collaborated on projects including “Sister Act 2” and “The Color Purple.”
