The Republican US Senator Lindsey Graham has died. His office announced on social media that he passed away on Saturday evening after a short, serious illness. Graham was 71 years old.
“Senator Graham’s family thanks everyone for their prayers and asks that their privacy is respected during this incredibly difficult time,” his office stated on X social media.
Political Hardliner
Graham was born in South Carolina, where his political career on the federal level began in 1994. Before entering the Senate in 2002, he served for many years as a congressman for his state. This year, he planned to run for re-election to the Senate.
Politically, Graham was considered a hardliner, especially known for his uncompromising stance in anti-terror efforts. Just recently, he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
From Opponent to Allied
Initially, Graham was one of Donald Trump’s most prominent critics. However, he later allied with Trump, becoming one of the senator’s most loyal supporters.
