Regular software updates are crucial for keeping devices up-to-date and resolving previous issues swiftly. Thus, it’s no surprise that FRITZ continuously rolls out updates for its numerous products. Recently, a new FritzBox update has been released.

FritzBox Update: 5 Routers Receive FritzOS 8.25

The latest release is FritzOS 8.25, a comprehensive software version that has been gradually rolled out to various devices from the German manufacturer. As is customary, the distribution takes place in phases, with some products receiving the update immediately upon release while others face a longer wait. Now, five WLAN routers are simultaneously getting the new FritzBox update.

The lucky models include: 7630, 4690, 4060, 6850 4G/LTE, and 6825 4G. FRITZ announced this update on its official X account, ensuring that owners of these models have immediate access to the new software. If you have one of these routers at home, check if the automatic update feature is activated; it will install the update automatically. Alternatively, users can manually download it via the interface by navigating to “System” > “Update” > “FritzOS Version” > “Search for new FritzOS.”

What’s New in the Update?

A quick look at the update overview reveals that FritzOS 8.25 offers an impressive array of features—over 20 adjustments, to be precise. Notably, interoperability with newer browser versions has been enhanced, and child safety schedule management for small displays has been revamped. Additionally, fail-safety support for primary internet connections with static IP configuration has been introduced, now displayed in greater detail in the online monitor.

Moreover, the FritzBox update addresses various bugs. For instance, IPv6 addresses in the WireGuard connection overview were not fully displayed, an issue now resolved. Also repaired is the remote access setup, which previously required the router to be connected to the internet. There were performance variations when using external modems with packet acceleration enabled, but these issues have now been corrected.

Why Regular Updates Matter

Regular updates not only enhance security by patching vulnerabilities but also improve the overall user experience by adding new features and resolving existing pain points. For FRITZ product users, staying updated is crucial for optimal performance, ensuring your home network remains stable and secure.

Conclusion

The release of FritzOS 8.25 brings significant improvements for a select group of routers, ensuring they maintain compatibility with evolving technologies while providing a better user experience. Users are encouraged to regularly check for updates and activate automatic installation features to ensure they benefit from the latest enhancements.
