Boy (15) from Steenbergen suspected of stabbing a peer to death

A 15-year-old boy from Steenbergen is suspected of murder together with a 17-year-old boy from Rilland in Zeeland. This is reported by the judiciary on Thursday. The victim, a 15-year-old boy from Middelburg, was found seriously injured with multiple stab wounds at the beginning of January. He died in hospital three days later.

The suspects were arrested January 14, the day after the stabbing, and have been detained ever since. The case was heard in court for the first time on Thursday, albeit ‘pro forma’.

During a pro forma hearing, the content of a case is not discussed, but the state of affairs is discussed in court. The purpose of pro forma hearings is usually to extend the pre-trial detention of suspects.

First session today
On January 12, 2022, three days after the stabbing, the two suspects were arrested. Given the age of the suspects, all hearings in the case were held behind closed doors.

Justice previously reported that the suspect from Rilland was 16 years old. That was later corrected.
