John de Mol is a very powerful man in Hilversum. The media billionaire, for example, owns almost all commercial radio stations, so if he doesn’t give you a thumbs up, you won’t get in. Jeroen van der Boom has understood that it is important to be good friends with him. He even has whole klaverjas evenings with the 66-year-old rich man.
Envious glances
Veronica Superguide thinks Jeroen does it very cleverly. “In a world where wheelbarrows are still crucial to success, Van der Boom has a handy connection: John de Mol. Van der Boom is so close to the media tycoon that he was even allowed to attend his ‘secret’ wedding.”
Other stars are immensely annoyed by this, the television magazine knows. “It resulted in envious looks from countless TV stars who believed that they were high enough in De Mol’s pecking order.”

Frank Wentink, a well-known name in the event world, is the discoverer of Jeroen. He understands why John likes him so much. “Actually, John de Mol is cute in a positive way. For example, he loves to celebrate Sinterklaas or to place a card.”

John likes intimate evenings with close friends. He doesn’t like going to bigger showbiz parties, Frank explains. “If I celebrate my 75th birthday soon at the Kürhaus in Scheveningen, I don’t have to expect it. That is far too massive for him.”
