Sustainable sneaker goes into the next round

Adidas and Allbirds are entering the next round with their sneaker collaboration.

The ‘Futurecraft Footprint’ sneaker, which was launched for the first time in May 2021, has been relaunched in four new colors and in the highest number to date, the German sporting goods manufacturer announced last week. The new editions have been available online from Adidas and Allbirds since Tuesday, as well as in selected stores for both brands.

The purchase price of the sneaker is 120 euros. Vegetable fibers and recycled materials are primarily used in the production of the sneaker, and no dyes are used at all. In addition, each shoe has a ‘nutrition value’ label that allows consumers to track the sneaker’s carbon footprint over its entire useful life.

Adidas and Allbirds had first announced a collaboration in summer 2020, which should result in a low-CO2 sneaker. Together, the two companies wanted to explore the possibilities in the field of sustainable sneakers – from the supply chain to transport methods. In May 2021, the two brands introduced the ‘Futurecraft.Footprint’ sneaker, which generates a carbon footprint of 2.94 kilograms during manufacture. With the new drop, Adidas and Allbirds want to prove “how quickly innovation can progress when two market leaders work together”.

“By continuing this progressive partnership, we aim to pave the way for other companies to embrace innovation in footwear and apparel. By working together, we can take further steps towards zero carbon emissions,” says Kimia Yaraghchian, Product Manager at Adidas.
