Bert Kuizenga, who had a long career creating programs for TROS, reflected on Brandsteder’s passing in the media. “I found his death quite shocking,” he shared in an interview with Weekend.
Kuizenga recalled how he had once taken on Brandsteder’s role in a revue with André van Duin. The two maintained contact over the years, and Kuizenga remarked on their close friendship. “I knew Ron quite well; he was a true TROS colleague. However, I had been aware for some time that he was unwell.”
No Farewell
While Bert believed he had a strong connection with Ron, the reality was that the public was unaware of his deteriorating health. Even those close to him found him increasingly hard to reach. “He didn’t want to be around as much… and I understand that,” Kuizenga explained.
Last Moments
Did Bert have a chance to see him before his death? “Yes, I did,” he noted. “That was not long before he passed, maybe two months prior. It was in a group with some other people.”
Was this a consciously arranged farewell? “No, not at all. He didn’t do that with many people. But that’s just how things go,” he accepted.
