Jeroen van der Boom: The Mayor of Apollolaan and His Million-Euro Home
Jeroen van der Boom, the renowned Dutch singer, has recently shared insights into his lavish lifestyle during an interview with the city newspaper Parool. He proudly refers to himself as the “mayor of the street,” a title that captures his prominent presence in Amsterdam’s luxurious Apollolaan neighborhood.
The Journey to Wealth
Born into modest beginnings, Jeroen’s rise to fame reflects his remarkable journey. In the 1990s, he hosted low-budget telephone games on television, but he has since evolved into a multimillionaire, a transformation that he embraces openly. In his interview, Jeroen discusses the extravagant abode where he now resides, shedding light on the opulent lifestyle he enjoys.
A Home Worth 3.3 Million Euros
Acquiring property in Apollolaan, an area where the average house price with a garden can be exorbitantly high, is a dream for many. Jeroen, however, managed to purchase a semi-detached house for a staggering 3.3 million euros. Despite the lofty price tag, the property required significant renovations, as Jeroen openly acknowledges that it was essentially a “dump” when he bought it.
Reflecting on his childhood dreams, he recalls gazing at these beautiful homes. “As a young boy, I thought, what a lovely neighborhood, close to the center yet peaceful. How wonderful it would be to live here one day,” he reminisces.
Embracing His Role as ‘Mayor’
Jeroen’s self-proclaimed title of “mayor” resonates well with how he interacts with his community. He claims to know all his neighbors and enjoys engaging with everyone he meets on the street. Often, people assume that Amsterdam locals don’t know their neighbors, but Jeroen proudly breaks that stereotype.
Prior to moving back to Amsterdam, he lived in Blaricum. He shares that many families in Blaricum often purchase a small home in Amsterdam for their children when they attend university. However, he and his family preferred to stay together for as long as possible, believing that maintaining familial closeness is a significant achievement.
Life Among the Birds
With a home nestled by water and surrounded by trees, Jeroen enjoys the tranquility of his environment. “When I sit in my garden, among the birds, it feels nothing like Amsterdam. The only sounds are those of nature, not tram bells—it’s almost like living in a more rural area,” he remarks.
When questioned whether he fits in with the affluent neighborhood, Jeroen candidly shares his past insecurities regarding societal expectations. “People asked me if I needed a ‘real’ job—was singing really my career?” Such doubts lingered for him throughout his early career.
Business Beyond Singing
Interestingly enough, Jeroen still faces questions about his suitability for his surroundings. “Many wonder why more singers don’t live on Apollolaan. I’ve built an entire business around my career; it’s much more than just performing,” he explains. He still performs four times a week, balancing his musical career with his entrepreneurial ventures.
Despite his financial success, Jeroen is humble enough to concede, “I’m certainly not the wealthiest on Apollolaan; I’m just a singer.” His journey from a struggling presenter to a millionaire artist reflects not only his talent but also his determination and the value of hard work.
Through his vivid storytelling and visible pride in his achievements, Jeroen van der Boom shines a light on the intersection of fame, rich lifestyle, and community engagement, all while maintaining a relatable humility.
