WNL recently announced that it will be wrapping up Welmoed Sijtsma’s appearances earlier this summer due to her forthcoming transition to RTL. This decision means that some of her broadcast weeks will be handed over to her colleague Frank van Leeuwen. “It is a beautiful way to conclude my time at WNL,” she stated.

As one of the leading figures within the WNL family, Welmoed participated in the auditions for RTL 4’s new late-night talk show, competing against her colleagues, Frank van Leeuwen and Sam Hagens. However, only one could secure the role, and Welmoed emerged victorious, signing a lucrative contract that will see her alternating with Renze Klamer’s new program starting in 2027.

Changes at WNL

This transition has left WNL with the dilemma of how to adjust its programming for the summer. Welmoed was originally slated to co-host its flagship show, Goedenavond Nederland, alongside Sam Hagens throughout the entire summer. The RTL deal has disrupted these plans, leading WNL to announce a modified hosting schedule.

Under the new arrangement, Welmoed will present only the first three weeks of the seven-week run. Thereafter, Sam will take the lead for two weeks, followed by a three-week stint alternating with Frank van Leeuwen. This adjustment has been perceived as a form of retribution against Welmoed for her departure, while simultaneously rewarding Frank’s loyalty to the network.

The Main Stage

With this new hosting structure, Sam will serve as the stable presence for Goedenavond Nederland as it embarks on its second season. Sam expressed that it’s a unique season, highlighting both the farewell to Welmoed and the opportunity to build new dynamics with Frank. “It remains an honor to lead discussions on the main stage regarding the topics of the day,” he remarked.

Frank shared his enthusiasm about the changes, stating, “I am incredibly excited to produce a talk show in this esteemed setting, engaging with urgent topics and guests while maintaining a positive atmosphere. It is indeed a fantastic adventure.”

A Fitting Farewell

Despite the abrupt shift, Welmoed expressed contentment with the outcome. “This feels like a beautiful conclusion to my years at WNL,” she affirmed.

Goedenavond Nederland will air from July 13 for seven weeks, from Monday to Thursday on NPO 1, as it sets the stage for exciting discussions and new beginnings.
