There is room for 80,000 spectators. Tens of thousands of Argentinians will soon be present again.

Lionel Scaloni not a fan of drinking breaks
Also the Argentinian one national coach Lionel Scaloni is not yet a fan of the drinking breaks at the World Cup. “It feels strange because the flow of the game is so interrupted. All interruptions can help the weaker teams on paper, because they get more time to recover,” Scaloni said in the run-up to Monday’s second group match against Austria.
Scaloni is convinced that drinking breaks are the new normal in football. “The concept of ‘four quarters’ is a reality,” the Argentinian referred to sports such as basketball and American football. “It feels crazy to adapt to this. But eventually it will become normal, just like any other change.”
Argentina and Austria meet at the Dallas Stadium at 7 p.m. Dutch time. They both won their first match at the World Cup. Scaloni: “That can make the match better. It’s going to be tough. There are no easy matches at a World Cup.”
All-time top scorers at the World Cup
Will Lionel Messi make history tonight by overtaking Miroslav Klose as all-time top scorer at the World Cup? With his hat-trick against Algeria last week, he was already level with the former Germany striker, who beat him in the 2014 World Cup final in Rio de Janeiro.
16 goals – Miroslav Klose (24 games)
16 goals – Lionel Messi (27 games)
15 goals – Ronaldo (19 games)
14 goals – Gerd Müller (13 games)
14 goals – Kylian Mbappe (15 games)
13 goals – Just Fontaine (6 games)
12 goals – Pele (14 games)
Top scorers at the 2026 World Cup
To date, 121 goals have been scored in the first 40 matches at this World Cup, an average of 3.02 goals per match. There have already been eight own goals, while only two players put the ball into their own goal at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. These are the top scorers with three goals.
Lionel Messi – 3 goals ahead Argentina
Jonathan David – 3 goals for Canada
Deniz Undav – 3 goals for Germany
19 players now have two goals, including Brian Brobbey, Cody Gakpo and Crysencio Summerville.
Forty years after legendary World Cup match
Today is June 22, a date where millions of Argentinians know immediately what ever happened on that day. On it played the 1986 World Cup Argentina in the quarter-finals of the 1986 World Cup against England. The 114,580 spectators at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City saw the star player Diego Maradona scored two iconic goals that day to make. First his goal with ‘The Hand of God’ in the 51st minute and four minutes later his legendary solo from his own half. Gary Lineker did something back in the 81st minute and became the top scorer of that World Cup, but it became Diego Maradona’s World Cup.
Argentina became world champions in 1978, 1986 and 2022, but this is the match that Argentinians perhaps like to talk about most.

Story by Edwin Winkels about Lionel Messi
Argentina these days sympathizes with Leo Messi and his concerns about his father’s health. Nobody wants to think about having to leave the World Cup, where Austria is the opponent tonight, in a hurry. While the star player could hardly count on love and appreciation in his own country for years.
