The Brabant Noord-Oost animal ambulance received a very remarkable report: a green-yellow snake in Sevenum, Limburg. The snake appeared to have traveled from France last weekend and was found in a crate at an agricultural company. The animal has now been taken to a shelter in Limburg by the animal ambulance.

“This species is not poisonous, but spicy,” says Yvonne Slots from the Carnivora Foundation shelter. Because the green-yellow hornet snake does not naturally occur in the Netherlands, the animal cannot simply be released into the wild. “We would ideally like that, but our hands are tied.”

By law they are not allowed to return the animal to France. “He will stay with us. We are going to furnish a place like he had in France,” says Yvonne. The foundation will ensure that this beautiful animal receives all the care it needs.

The green-yellow hornet snake is harmless, but can quickly bite away when it feels threatened. He can also hit with his tail. This species can grow up to 6 feet tall. You mainly find them in Italy and the south of France.
