A 16-year-old boy drowned on Friday in the Grand Large, an artificial lake near Mons in the province of Hainaut. This was reported by our colleagues from the French-language news site RTL and has been confirmed by the public prosecutor’s office.
The victim is 16-year-old Noam. The teenager drowned on Friday while swimming with friends. Emergency services tried to resuscitate the boy, but in vain. The precise circumstances of his death are still unclear.
“He was only 16. I am devastated,” Noam’s mother responded in a message on Facebook. “He was a very sweet child, with many good qualities. I don’t know what I would do without him.” Friends and relatives of the teenager’s family have started a fundraising campaign.
