After Julian Brandt, Leeds United have apparently set their sights on the next Bundesliga professional. As “Bild” reports, former Gladbach coach Daniel Farke wants to bring his former protégé Nico Elvedi over. The central defender would be the sixth arrival from Germany since Farke took office.
According to the newspaper’s information, Leeds want to pay a fair market value of 8.5 million euros for Elvedi. But that shouldn’t be enough for the foals. With one year remaining, the 29-year-old is currently valued at 8 million euros. Gladbach signed him for 4 million euros in 2015.
Since the summer of 2023, Farke had so far brought Ilia Gruev from Werder Bremen, Ao Tanaka from Fortuna Düsseldorf, Sebastiaan Bornauw and Lukas Nmecha from VfL Wolfsburg and Anton Stach from TSG 1899 Hoffenheim to him and the Peacocks. Elvedi is expected to be the next, having played 34 games under the 49-year-old so far. The Swiss is currently competing with his national team at the World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada.

After the tournament he could look for a new challenge. It is said that he always wanted to go to the Premier League. He had already left his future at the club open to “Bild” after the end of the Bundesliga. “After more than ten years, I of course know what I have in Gladbach, the club is my home. But you know what can happen in football…” With a club membership of almost eleven years, Elvedi is the longest-serving professional in the Lower Rhine and one of the most loyal players in the Bundesliga.
