A tree fell on a car last night due to heavy weather at ‘t Haantje in the municipality of Coevorden. One person involved was seriously injured, the police reported.

Emergency services are on the scene, it is unclear whether there were more people in the car.

The violent storm, for which the KNMI has declared code orange, has left a trail of destruction throughout the province. A tree also fell on a party tent in Hollandscheveld. Everyone came out from under the tent and no one was injured, says a spokesperson for the Drenthe Safety Region (VRD).

Because the emergency services initially did not have a good picture of the situation, they responded en masse to the scene of the accident. There would have been people trapped under the tent, but it later became clear that they had escaped from under it. The emergency services were then able to scale down.

Many incidents occurred throughout the province during the storm. A car ended up upside down in the ditch along the Hoogeveenseweg in Zuidwolde.

In addition, there were reports of storm damage in Valthe, Annen, Witteveen, Drouwenermond and 2e Exloërmond, among others. It is not yet known whether people were injured in these incidents.
