The biotechnology company AMSilk from Neuried near Munich has appointed Christian Wichert as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). He assumed the position on June 1, 2026 and will drive the commercialization and international scaling of the company’s silk protein technology.
AMSilk is currently in transition from technology development to market penetration. The company most recently drew attention with its bio-based silk protein yarns in Balenciaga’s Spring 2026 collection.
Wichert has more than 25 years of international leadership experience in the areas of biotechnology, specialty chemicals and consumer goods. Most recently, he led the Swiss company Evolva AG as CEO and oversaw its sale to the Lallemand Group.
“AMSilk is a true pioneer in its field, and it is an honor for me to join as Chairman of the Board at such an important phase in the company’s development,” says new CEO Christian Wichert. “What particularly impressed me is the combination of a unique technology with significant market potential and a highly committed and determined team. This creates a convincing basis for further growth and the development of new applications.”
The previous CEO Ulrich Scherbel will remain with the company and will take on the role of Managing Director and COO Premium Filaments in the future.
With the change in leadership, AMSilk wants to accelerate the scaling of its technology and further expand its market position in various application areas.
