According to the public prosecutor, it appears from the telephone data and the DNA material found that O. is partly responsible for Meinema’s death. O. denies this. He said at first that he didn’t know Meinema.

He revised his statement when confronted with the phone records. Meinema had been called with a prepaid telephone purchased by O.. The man said he had been approached by Meinema for drug trafficking. The deal came to nothing, because Meinema did not bring the trade on the third appointment, says the suspect from Emmen.

O. then went home empty-handed. Meinema was found dead the next morning in the trunk of his own car. The public prosecutor called O.’s story about the drug deal ‘nonsense’. It rattles on all sides and is demonstrably wrong on crucial points, the prosecutor said. The OM finds it more likely that O. lured Meinema to a remote place with the prepaid phone call. “And that’s where the trail ends,” the prosecutor said.
