Residents of De Boterham in Essenbeek looked surprised on Wednesday afternoon. The tricolor flags with which they had decorated the square in front of their door suddenly appeared to have been removed by the city services. “A little pride is allowed, right?”, local resident Christel wonders. “Certainly, but because a complaint was filed, we had no choice but to intervene,” responds Mayor Eva Demesmaeker (N-VA).
