Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers, co-hosts of the “Las Culturistas” podcast, honored Will Ferrell with the Titan of Culture Award at their annual “Las Culturistas” Culture Awards gala, which Bravo and Peacock aired Wednesday night. Although awards usually have ironic and sarcastic undertones, this one seemed sincere: Yang described the award as “a title earned through a decades-long career that has never faltered,” adding, Ferrell “invented the comedy that invented our personalities.” But then they showed a slide show that had been created by sixth graders at a middle school.
Ferrell’s gratitude for the award was equally genuine. In his acceptance speech, he gave the following advice to people who were wondering how to become a “Titan of Culture”: “Be proud of yourself.” “I think we should all celebrate our pride,” he said. But then there was a sharp about-face: “I, for example, am proud to be an actor and filmmaker – but I’m also proud to be the husband of a woman. What I mean by that is: I’m proud to be heterosexual. God, it feels good to finally say that out loud.” (Worth mentioning: Under his dark blue suit, he wore black leather harness straps instead of a vest.)
His second tip on the way to becoming a Titan was to “be happy, be joyful… be gay” – which of course sounded much more appropriate for a speech during LGBTQ Pride Month. “Have gay pride,” he said. “Starting this month.” He looked at Yang and Rogers, who are both gay – the two nodded. “I hereby declare June Pride Month,” he announced while pulling out a rainbow flag. “And to celebrate the day, I made a flag that represents everything I believe in gay pride.”
Leather, filmography and gay pride
For him, each color of the flag represented a title from his filmography or another achievement: “Talladega Nights,” “SNL,” “the real awards I won,” “how much money I made – a lot,” “Stranger Than Fiction” and “A Night at the Roxbury.” He then presented his leather straps, which he said he wore for security reasons. “Strap up, gays,” he said.
Rogers and Yang co-hosted the 2026 edition of the “Las Culturistas” Culture Awards at an event in Los Angeles on May 30 (Ferrell, of course, knew when the show would air). As with previous ceremonies, the satirical spectacle “celebrates culture’s most iconic and consequential moments” according to its producers – with over 100 categories, musical performances and celebrity cameos.
