Natasja Froger and Wijnand Speelman successfully conquered the Mont Ventoux in France on Thursday during the fourteenth edition of the Tour du ALS charity campaign. Froger did this while walking, while the 3FM DJ ran upstairs.
“The combination of the heat and the continuous climbing made it anything but easy, but we know what we are doing it for,” says Speelman, who, like Froger, is an ambassador for the ALS Netherlands Foundation.
For Froger, this edition was ‘extra special and emotional’, she says. “Last year I lost a dear friend to ALS. Today I climbed Mont Ventoux with her husband, family and friends. It felt like Monique was with us the whole way. It was extra special that my granddaughter Charlie and her boyfriend Dean were also there. We had a lot of support from each other along the way.”
A total of 878 participants took part on Thursday. The provisional final proceeds amount to more than 2 million euros.
