Bamberg’s patron makes serious allegations against head coach Anton Gavel. He wants to challenge his contract with a legal trick – in order to move to FC Bayern.

Just before the first championship match ball of the FC Bayern The playoffs of the Basketball Bundesliga suddenly become a minor matter. Why? Because Bamberg’s shareholder Michael Stoschek made explosive internal matters public. Accordingly, coach Anton Gavel wants to challenge his contract, which runs until 2027, with a legal trick – in order to clear the way to Bayern.

Stoschek specifically addressed the public via “Bild” and “Hamburger Abendblatt” around two hours before the start of the third final game on Wednesday. Gavel is citing a formal error: the digital signature under his contract is vulnerable due to a lack of written confirmation and he has already submitted the notice of termination. Stoschek said about the coach: “He is the one who is breaking the contract. He is the one who comes with the quibble that was brought to his attention that the digital signature is not valid due to a lack of confirmation and presented us with the termination.”

The fact that Gavel would leave Bamberg was considered an open secret in the industry. The 41-year-old is set to succeed outgoing head coach Svetislav Pešić at FC Bayern, under whom Gavel once played for years and as championship captain in Munich. Bayern signed Thorsten Leibenath from Ratiopharm Ulm as their new sports director in May. Leibenath and Gavel know each other very well from Ulm, where they won a surprising championship together.

Trouble about alleged trainer theft

Bayern reportedly do not want to pay a transfer fee. Stoschek’s attempts to discuss the matter with Bayern President Herbert Hainer and Bayern’s patron Uli Hoeness Both failed to solve the problem. Stoschek said: “I think it’s absolutely unfair that the largest and most financially powerful sports club in Europe is taking an important coach away from small Bamberg in this way.” There is a risk of legal dispute.
