Water company PWN was busy replacing the water pipes when it asbestos was found. The substance is located in an area on and around Van Beijerenstraat and Julianaplein. Those streets are well cordoned off.
No asbestos in homes
A specialized company has started cleaning up. “It’s a big job,” an employee of the remediation company told NH. “Which we will be working on in the coming days.” The municipality of Hoorn also confirms that it will take some time.
No asbestos has been found in houses, the municipality said after samples were taken and checked. Residents can enter their homes. It is advisable to rinse the soles of shoes thoroughly with water so that the asbestos does not enter.
The same flushing advice is available for pram and bicycle tires. Cars in the cordoned off area are also cleaned and then moved.
