At the World Cup opener against Croatia, Harry Kane scored twice in the first half. This means he is now on a par with an English football legend.
Harry Kane made history at the England national football team’s World Cup opener. The Bayern Munich striker scored twice in the first half against Croatia, drawing level with England’s World Cup record scorer Gary Lineker. Both now have ten goals to their name at World Cups.
Kane was also successful at the third World Cup: in Russia in 2018 he was top scorer with six goals, and in Qatar in 2022 he scored two goals. In 2026 in the USA, Mexico and Canada, Kane only needed one half to achieve the same result. In the long list of England international players, only David Beckham also scored at three World Cups (1998, 2002, 2006).
Kane scored his first goal against Croatia in the twelfth minute with a penalty kick. In the 42nd minute he put England in the lead again with a header.
