State Secretary Annet Bertram (Infrastructure and Water Management) has discussed with the NS that people who have taken out a summer season ticket will be notified when it is about to expire, so that they are not tied to it. “Attention is also being paid to this,” said the minister during a two-minute debate about the railway.
On Monday, NS and other train carriers launched a subscription that allows travelers to travel unlimitedly during off-peak hours for up to two months in the summer for 49 euros per month. Due to great interest in the cheaper subscription, NS was experiencing login problems. The summer ticket automatically extends into a flex subscription, which is a lot more expensive.
“Of course it had to be done in a certain system, but we are doing our best,” Bertram tempered expectations somewhat.
Accommodating
The minister’s answers followed questions from MP Habtamu de Hoop (PRO). He also asked whether the State Secretary wanted to discuss with the NS how to be lenient with people who cancel their subscription too late, but Bertram did not explicitly respond to this.
Pieter Grinwis (CU) asked Bertram to monitor the marginal costs and benefits of the ticket to see whether it is a beneficial way to fill off-peak hours. That’s what the minister wants to do. She indicates that she is very curious about who will choose the subscription and whether it has ‘set in motion the movement that we really wanted to have’.
